Its not unusual

It looks like summer is over. The sunny days of the past two weeks have turned to rain and high winds for the whole week. Its blowing 100km per hour winds out in the bay, but we have sort shelter in a bay on Kawau Island.

This sort of weather is not unusual for Auckland at the end of January and then clear again for February. While I was still setting up Imagine to sail off around the South Pacific, a storm hit Auckland in February 2018 creating major flooding.

In 2023 at mid of January storm created more flooding in the North Island. At the beginning of February Cyclone Gabrielle devastated Auckland, causing 14.5 billion dollars work of damage. I again took shelter at Kawau Island hiding from the 150km per hour winds. Some of the tall pine trees gave way and came crashing down landing on the shore of the bay I was taking shelter.

So this weather is not unusual. Just think that February is normally and is predicted to give us a hot dry month.
