Sightseeing

Short on time and trying to squeeze as much as we could into this trip, we said goodbye to our friends and headed into Sydney. Rather than battle the city’s parking prices, we left the car behind and caught a train. Stepping off at Circular Quay, we wandered along the waterfront, taking in the Opera House, the sweep of the Harbour Bridge, and the calm green spaces of the Botanic Garden. While eating lunch we were serenaded by live Aboriginal music.

When we’d finished our round of sightseeing, we caught the train back to the car and eased our way north through Sydney’s traffic. Along the way we stopped to pick up more supplies, reshuffling the back of the Ranger yet again — a familiar ritual by this point. Once everything was stowed, we were back on the road, heading toward Nelson Point and our campsite for the night.

The site turned out to be a National Park campground tucked right into the sand dunes, the beach only a short walk away. It felt wild and sheltered at the same time, a quiet pocket of coastline waiting for us at the end of a long day.
